Create U Disk Notebook in OneNote 2010 in Windows XP

In this example, we using OneNote 2010,  create new notebook in U Disk in Windows XP.

Steps:  OneNote 2010 -> "File" -> "New" -> "New Notebook"

1. Store Notebook On: My Computer
2. Name: USB Notebook
3. Location: navigate to U disk: E:\USB OneNote Notebooks
4. Finally, click "Create Notebook" button.

OneNote will create notebook into U disk.
In this U disk notebook, OneNote will save all the modify data into U disk when create new or edit page.

Press ALT+=, and then type the equation.

Type equations in linear format
To align an equation array, you can use @ and &, as in the following:

\eqarray(x+1&=2@1+2+3+y&=z@3/x&=6)<space>

which resolves to this:

Create Customize Template in OneNote

In OneNote, click "Insert" tab -> "Pages" group -> "Page Templates" command -> Open "Templates" Pane -> on the bottom of the pane -> "Create new template" -> click "Save current page as a template".
OneNote will create a new template, and save it into "My Templates" group.

OneNote Option - Vertical Scroll Bar Appears on the Left

OneNote has an option to move page vertical scroll bar to the left.

Follow "File" tab -> "Options" item -> Open "OneNote Options" window -> "Display" tab -> "Display" group -> check the "Vertical scroll bar appears on the left".

OneNote has provided tag features. You can use these tags to flag out a paragraph clearly with an icon. The tag also help to easily search the paragraph too.

In default, OneNote has provide 29 tags.
But, OneNote also has the customize tag feature.

Create a New OneNote Tag

From "Start" tab -> "Tags" group -> "Tag" list -> on the bottom of the list, click "Customize Tags".

​When you are at a class room, lecture, Q&A session, or interview, sometimes you will find you won't be able to type notes fast enough with them.

You can use OneNote "Record Audio" feature to record audio, and you also can take note during the recording. 

OneNote will remember the time of typing notes of the audio.

You can play back the audio from the time of the paragraphs.

Record Audio in OneNote, Take Note During the Recording

Start Recording Audio
In OneNote -> "Insert" tab -> "Recording" group -> "Record Audio" feature.
OneNote will insert an audio attach file into current page. And append a Time Stamp bottom of the attach file.

Take Note During the Recording
During recording, you can type the text to take note what the contents of current audio.
OneNote will record the time stamp of the audio for the notes.
For example:

Chapter 8: Mechanics of Options Markets ( record at 23 seconds of the audio)
8.1: Types of options (record at 1 minute 1 second of the audio )
Call Options (record at 1 minute 16 seconds of the audio)
……

Make Text in Image Searchable is Disabled

When you clipping a screenshot into OneNote, and want to copy text from picture. 
But, sometimes you find something difference in right click menu.

• On the right click menu, there cannot find "Copy Text from Picture" item.
• "Make Text in Image Searchable" is disabled.
• "Alt Text" is empty.

In this article, we discuss a reason of sync slowly of OneNote.

In OneNote ribbon, has a feature "File Printout". 
Many people like this feature. For example: it can print PDF file into OneNote as printout, and use Draw Tools to make comments for PDF.

But, printout make a small PDF file to a very big file, it cause OneNote difficult to sync.

So, what is printout?

At first, In a notebook, create 2 new section:

1.     New Section 1， size is 11 KB
2.     New Section 2， size is 11 KB

Now, we ready to insert a PDF file ( size is 1765 KB) to see what happened.

OneNote has a feature named "Copy Link to Paragraph". This command can get the hyperlink of the selected paragraph.

This feature is not like its description, copy hyperlink only, it also can copy the selected text.

"Copy Link to Paragraph" is in paragraph right-click menu.

Select a paragraph, right click on it, on the pop up menu, you can find the "Copy Link to Paragraph" menu item.

OneNote has a feature to help you quickly create hyperlink between pages. You just simple input a format text, OneNote will create a hyperlink for another page.


Enable link creation by typing [[ ]] around a phrase

Go to  OneNote Options window. In "Advanced" tab, check on the "Enable link creation by typing [[ ]] around a phrase" option.

Extra Empty Columns Display in Spreadsheet in OneNote

OneNote can insert Excel spreadsheet from 2013 version.
But it has some extra empty columns display on the right of spreadsheet, they take up a lot of space on page.

1. OneNote local notebooks save in your local disk. They save as .one files.
2. OneNote shared notebooks save in Personal OneDrive. They are not save in your local disk.
3. OneNote shared notebooks save in SharePoint OneDrive.

Move OneNote Local Notebook to Personal OneDrive
To move your local notebook to Personal OneDrive, just right click on the local notebook, on the context menu, click "Share This Notebook" item.

Add Features:

New Quick Note
OneNote 2016 add "View" tab -> "Window" group -> "New Quick Note" feature.
"New Quick Note" feature will open a mini OneNote window.

If you have a lot of subpage in an OneNote main page, there are 2 ways to select all its subpages.

• Way 1: Collapse subpages, and select the main page to select all subpages.
• Way 2: Double click on main page to select all subpages.

OneNote provide 3 level page, you can make 2 level subpage.
